CGPA Calculator: Calculate Your Cumulative Grade Point Average
Calculate your cumulative grade point average by weighting each grade point by its course credits. Include earlier credits to combine past performance with your current semester.
This free CGPA calculator helps you estimate semester GPA, often called SGPA, and your overall cumulative GPA on a 10-point scale. A four-credit course contributes twice as much as a two-credit course with the same grade points. Use the calculator below, then read the method and example to understand the result.
Use the cgpa calculator
How to use the cgpa calculator

- Enter your previous CGPA and the credits already included in it. For your first semester, leave both values at zero.
- Add one row for each current subject. Enter a subject name if you want it to appear in the report.
- Choose each subject’s letter grade and enter its credits. Use the Add a subject or remove controls to adjust the list.
- Open Grading scale & how it works if your institution assigns different points to the listed grades. Edit the points before reading the result.
- Read Semester GPA for the new subjects and Cumulative CGPA for the combined result. Choose Download PDF, Print report, or Save current semester as needed.
Formula and calculation method
Semester GPA = Σ(grade points × subject credits) ÷ Σ(subject credits). Cumulative CGPA = [(previous CGPA × previous credits) + current semester weighted points] ÷ (previous credits + current semester credits).
Worked example
Suppose two courses carry four credits each and earn grade points of 9 and 8. Their weighted points are 36 and 32, so semester GPA is 68 ÷ 8 = 8.50. If your previous CGPA was 8.00 across 20 credits, the new cumulative CGPA is (160 + 68) ÷ 28 = 8.14 when displayed to two decimal places.
Default grade point scale
| Letter grade | Grade points |
|---|---|
| O | 10 |
| A+ | 9 |
| A | 8 |
| B+ | 7 |
| B | 6 |
| C | 5 |
| F | 0 |
CGPA, GPA and SGPA: what is the difference?
GPA describes a grade point average over a chosen set of courses. SGPA normally refers to a single semester, while CGPA combines the eligible courses completed so far. Institutions can use these labels differently. The calculation here uses course credits rather than taking a simple average of semester GPAs.
Use your official grading rules
The default points are O = 10, A+ = 9, A = 8, B+ = 7, B = 6, C = 5 and F = 0. Grade points are editable from 0 to 10. The tool does not automatically apply university-specific exclusions, retake replacement rules or non-credit course policies. Enter only the subjects and credits your official calculation includes.
Save and export your grade report
Download PDF creates a local text report. Print report opens a printable version and can also be used with your browser’s Save as PDF option. Semester history stores a saved semester in this browser. A saved semester includes its own GPA and credits; it does not add the previous credits again.
Frequently asked questions
Can I calculate CGPA without previous semester results?
Yes. Leave previous CGPA and previous credits at zero to calculate the grade point average of the subjects you enter.
Should I average semester GPAs to get CGPA?
Only when those semesters have equal eligible credits and the institution permits that method. Otherwise, weight each semester GPA by its credits.
Does this calculator support every university?
It supports editable grade points on a 10-point scale. Check your institution’s inclusion, retake and rounding rules before using the result as an official CGPA.
These tools provide planning estimates. Your institution’s current academic regulations, grading policy and official records take priority.
