CGPA to Percentage Calculator: Apply Your Official Formula

There is no universal CGPA-to-percentage formula. Use the conversion formula published by your university or examination board, then enter its multiplier and offset in this calculator.

This CGPA percentage converter applies a linear formula to a CGPA on a 10-point scale. The default multiplier of 9.5 is an illustration, not a claim about your institution. Check the official conversion certificate, academic regulations or transcript instructions before using a percentage on an application.

How to use the cgpa to percentage

A lavender arrow connects a grade chart card to a card with a percent symbol.
Convert grade points using the multiplier and offset in your institution’s official formula.
  1. Find the official conversion rule for your institution, programme and applicable academic year.
  2. Enter your CGPA, between 0 and 10.
  3. Enter the multiplier from the official formula.
  4. Enter the offset. Use a negative offset when the formula subtracts a constant; use zero if there is no offset.
  5. Read the converted percentage and confirm that it matches the official method. Download or print the report with the formula you used.

Formula and calculation method

Percentage = CGPA × multiplier + offset. If an official rule is written as (CGPA − a) × b, the equivalent multiplier is b and the offset is −a × b.

Worked example

With the illustrative rule percentage = CGPA × 9.5, an 8.00 CGPA converts to 76.00%. With a different illustrative rule percentage = CGPA × 10 − 5, the same CGPA converts to 75.00%. These examples show why choosing the correct formula matters; neither is a universal university policy.

Why institutions use different conversion rules

A grade point average summarizes grade points, not necessarily the original percentage marks. Institutions can assign different grade boundaries and publish different equivalence rules. A percentage calculated using a convenient multiplier is not automatically valid for admissions, scholarships or employment forms.

When this converter is not suitable

This tool accepts a linear multiplier-and-offset formula on a 10-point scale. It does not support a 4-point GPA directly, piecewise conversion tables or programme-specific lookup rules. If the official method uses a table or several conditional ranges, follow that source instead of forcing it into a linear formula.

Keep a record of the formula

A useful conversion report records the original CGPA, multiplier, offset and output percentage. Keep the institution’s official policy or conversion certificate alongside the calculation. The calculator flags results outside 0–100% so you can recheck the inputs instead of silently treating an invalid result as a valid percentage.

Frequently asked questions

Is multiplying CGPA by 9.5 always correct?

No. It is only correct when your institution’s applicable official policy specifies that conversion. The calculator uses it as an editable example.

How do I enter a formula that subtracts a number?

Use the multiplier field and a negative offset. For percentage = CGPA × 10 − 5, enter multiplier 10 and offset −5.

Does this tool issue an official conversion certificate?

No. It creates a calculation report. Only the appropriate institution or authorized body can issue its official conversion documentation.

These tools provide planning estimates. Your institution’s current academic regulations, grading policy and official records take priority.
