IIT Roorkee Percentage: Admission Cohorts and the 95% Cap

The older IIT Roorkee expression stops increasing above a defined grade-point threshold.

IIT Roorkee conversion guide showing % = CGPA × 10 and an illustrative 8.00 CGPA to 80.00% calculation.
Illustration of the admitted from academic session 2024–25 method. Other programme or regulation options may use a different rule.

Which record does this guide cover?

The notification separates admissions from 2024–25 from admissions during 2015–16 to 2023–24. In the older supported range, the result is fixed at 95% above CGPA 9. Continuing the straight-line expression beyond that point would ignore the cap.

The 2025 notification gives ×10 for admissions from 2024–25. For admissions 2015–16 to 2023–24 it gives 10×CGPA+5 from CGPA 4 through 9, and a fixed 95% above 9. Its stated purposes include training, placement, employment and external recruiting requirements.

Worked example using the supported expression

For 8.20 CGPA, the selected rule gives 82.00%. Keep the original grade-point value and the rule label together so that the saved result can be checked against its source.

Worked calculation summary
CGPA Equivalent percentage
6.00 60.00%
7.00 70.00%
8.00 80.00%
9.00 90.00%

Percentage = CGPA × 10

Compare the supported options before choosing

Different presets represent different scopes. The comparison below is an arithmetic illustration; it does not let you choose a rule on the basis of the higher result.

Worked calculation summary
Rule or scope Example input Example result
admitted from academic session 2024–25 8.00 80.00%
Admitted 2015–16 to 2023–24 8.00 85.00%

Check the upper cap in the older cohort

For the supported older admission cohorts, 9.00 gives 95.00% and 9.50 also gives 95.00%. Continuing 10×CGPA+5 beyond 9 would ignore the fixed upper result in the notification.

Keep a usable report

Save the PDF with the original academic record when you need a portable calculation. Print report prepares the same calculation for paper; Download image produces a PNG. The source and scope are part of the report, so keep them visible when explaining the result.

Share opens a preview. It starts with the tool link; Include current result adds the entered values and calculation details. Review that preview before sharing. Website reports are independent calculations and do not replace certificates issued by the awarding institution.

Questions about this IIT Roorkee calculation

Does 9.5 CGPA give 100% under the older Roorkee rule?

No. For the supported 2015–16 to 2023–24 admission cohorts, the notification fixes the result at 95% above CGPA 9.

Can one semester’s GPA stand in for the final result?

Use the period and metric requested by the application. A semester average and a cumulative record can describe different courses; calculate a credit-weighted average only under the relevant academic rules.
